I have seen a lot of posts lately that are all “don’t hate on Amanda Abbington for playing Mary.” 

the ~reasons~ for leaving her alone have included mostly the following

1) Mary doesn’t ~actually~ threaten Johnlock
2) Amanda is involved with Martin Freeman be nice to her because she is his person
3) Amanda has never done anything negative to the fandom

dear fandom. you suck. I will address the reasons why in order:

1) Mary doesn’t ~actually~ threaten Johnlock because she dies in canon
WHO FUCKING CARES. I don’t give a fuck if Mary’s entire role is stealing John from under Sherlock’s nose,twirling her evil mustache, and cackling the whole way, then drowning an entire bag of kittens in a burlap sack. AMANDA ABBINGTON IS NOT THE CHARACTER SHE PLAYS. EVEN IF THE CHARACTER IS A HORRIBLE PERSON, EVEN IF THE CHARACTER IS A WONDERFUL PERSON, IT DOESN’T FUCKING MATTER. STOP FOCUSING ON YOUR ABSURD FETISHIZATION OF WHITE DUDEBRO LOVE. YOU DON’T THREATEN PEOPLE.

2) Amanda is involved with Martin Freeman be nice to her because she is his person
WHO FUCKING CARES. I don’t care if she is in a relationship with absolutely no one in the cast. I don’t care if she has personally insulted every member of the cast twice. I don’t care if she has said that publicly. Her relationship (or lack thereof) with any member of the cast does not validate her existence. Her being a fucking human being does. YOU DON’T THREATEN PEOPLE. 

3) Amanda has never done anything negative to the fandom
WHO. FUCKING. CARES. I don’t give a fuck if she has officially stated that everyone in fandom is a poopy head. I don’t care if she has called y’all on your caustic bullshit (which I wish someone would, because you are all fucking disgusting). I don’t care if she has never interacted with any of you. YOU DON’T. FUCKING. THREATEN. PEOPLE. EVER. FULL STOP.

here is the acceptable reason to tell people to leave Amanda Abbington alone: ”hey, Amanda Abbington is a real human being with real feelings and she deserves to feel safe and secure regardless of the roles she chooses”

again. real person. deserves to feel safe. stop being shitty fucking people and respect her personhood independent of her role on sherlock. 

okay so

I have a lot of feels in general about the animosity between the BBC Sherlock and Elementary fandoms but as someone who considers themself a member of both let me just say that I thought it was really cute when the phrase “I believe in Sherlock Holmes” cropped up in Elementary because I feel like the Elementary writers have been incredibly inventive and fresh in their take on the canon but have still taken a lot of shit because of BBC Sherlock and in spite of that this was like a small wave and a smile to the BBC version and yeah basically everyone should watch both shows and be happy there I’m done.
